The School of Business launches its new Bachelor’s major ‘Responsibility and Impact’
The School of Business launches its new Bachelor’s major Responsibility and Impact, starting in autumn 2026. This Finnish-language major asks the questions that strike at the core: What should companies really do in a world where sustainability, justice, and economics collide every day? And more importantly, what kind of expertise is needed to engage with these questions deeply: not just to manage them on the surface, do what “needs” to be done, and comply – but to stay genuinely curious about what could be done differently, and brave enough to act on that curiosity.
‘Companies are part of societal change, whether they choose to be or not. That’s why we need professionals who can see beyond numbers, reports, and strategies: to educate people who understand what impact actually means in practical terms,’ says Associate Professor Taija Turunen, Head of the new Bachelor’s major.
‘Navigating complexity and nurturing ethical imagination both begin with managerial curiosity, something I’ve been deeply engaged with in my recent research. This new major builds on that idea: it’s about developing the kind of curiosity that refuses to settle for what already exists. Because before we can change things, we have to be curious enough to see them differently, honest enough to name what’s broken, and strong enough to take action,’ Taija Turunen continues.
