Two computer science articles have been made into videos

The videos have been made for the cross disciplinary Conference on Knowledge Discovery & Data Mining KDD 2016.

Two articles from the Department of Computer Science, DopeLearning: A Computational Approach to Rap Lyrics Generation and Reconstructing an Epidemic over Time, have been accepted to . The conference will be held in August in San Francisco. For the conference, all papers have been made into videos where the scientists show their central theories and findings.

The videos are a part of the Audience Appreciation Competition where the videos with the most views will be watched by a jury. The jury will announce a winner according to scientific and artistic criteria. The winner will get an award of one thousand dollars.

and was developed by doctoral students Eric Malmi and Pyry Takala, along with professors Tapani Raiko and Aristides Gionis from the Aalto University Computer Science Department and professor Hannu Toivonen from the University of Helsinki and HIIT.

The authors of made a model of spreading in networks. The model can be applied to everything from health related issues to the spreading of different internet phenomena.

- We have developed CulT, a scalable and effective algorithm to reconstruct epidemics that is also suited for an online setting, the researchers say.

Reconstructing an Epidemic over Time was written by Doctoral student Polina Rozenshtein and Professor Aristides Gionis from the Department of Computer Science at Aalto University and Assistan Professor B. Aditya Prakash from Virginia Tech and researcher Jilles Vreeken from Max-Planck Institute for Informatics and Saarland University.
