Transcripts and Translations of Degree Certificates
For those graduating from an English-language programme, a degree certificate with the same content is issued in Finnish or Swedish and English if the thesis is also written in English. If the thesis is written in Finnish, a Finnish or Swedish certificate is issued along with an English translation. For graduates from a Finnish-language programme, a Finnish or Swedish certificate is issued along with an English translation. In the School of Business, a degree certificate is issued only in Finnish and English or a Finnish certificate and an English translation.
Two copies of the degree certificate and its translation are prepared: one for you and the other for the Aalto University archive. If your copy is lost or destroyed, you cannot obtain a new original certificate, but you can receive a certified copy from the archive.
With the degree certificate, you will receive a Diploma Supplement intended for international use, providing detailed information about your degree in English. Additionally, you can order a transcript of your studies in Finnish, Swedish, or English by contacting studentservices@aalto.fi.

General information about Apostille certificates
A notary public can confirm the authenticity of the signature or stamp of the party that supplied the document, as may be required by foreign authorities. The party that provided the signature or stamp for the document may be e.g. a Finnish public authority, an authorised translator, a physician, etc. An apostille is a separate document certifying the validity of the signature or stamp of the party attesting to the authenticity of the main document. The apostille is intended to simplify the process of legalising (i.e. verifying the authenticity of) documents that will be used in a foreign state that is a party to the Apostille Convention.
When does a student need an apostille certificate?
You need an apostille certificate when you have to prove the official competence of the signer of a document. You may obtain an apostille only for documents that have been issued by a public authority or a comparable party (for example, an authorised translator or a licenced physician). Apostilles are needed only abroad; in the Nordic countries or within the EU, the certificate is usually not needed for certain general documents issued by public authorities to confirm, for example, a person’s birth, death, name, marriage, place of residence or citizenship.
