Language requirements
The language of instruction in the Bachelor’s Programme in Design and Media is English. You must prove sufficient language skills when applying to the programme. Your application will be rejected if you do not do so by the given deadline.
English language proficiency can be proved with an official language test result, an English subject grade in the Finnish Matriculation Examination, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma, or Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA) or Reifeprüfung (RP) diploma completed in Finland, or with a degree completed fully in English in certain countries.
Official language tests
See below for more information on the accepted language tests (IELTS Academic, TOEFL, PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency, and YKI). Tests other than those listed below are not accepted. If you have several test results, the best valid official result that has arrived by the deadline will be considered.
The official test result must be available ÄûÃʵ¼º½ University no later than 29 January 2026 at 3pm/15.00 (UTC+2). Test results arriving after the deadline will not be considered. The results of all language tests are verified electronically.
English subject grade in the Finnish Matriculation Examination, IB or EB Diploma, or DIA-/RP diploma completed in Finland
See below for more details on the requirements. English subject grades from other qualifications are not accepted as proof of language proficiency.
If the degree proving your English proficiency is the same as the degree granting you eligibility to apply, and you are completing the degree in spring 2026, the deadline for submitting documents is indicated in the Required application documents section (depending on the qualification completed). Admission is conditional until you submit your final grades ÄûÃʵ¼º½ University Admission Services. If the final grades do not meet the language requirements, the admission decision will be cancelled.
If the degree proving your English proficiency is other than the degree granting you eligibility to apply, it must be fully completed, and the deadline for submitting the degree certificate is 29 January 2026 at 3pm/15.00 (UTC+2).
A degree completed fully in English in certain countries
Language proficiency can be demonstrated with:
- Upper secondary education completed in English in one of the following countries, while residing in that country: EU/EEA countries, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Switzerland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States.
- A bachelor’s, master’s, licentiate, or doctoral degree completed in English in one of the following countries, while residing in that country: EU/EEA countries, Australia, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Dominica, Eritrea, Eswatini, South Africa, Ethiopia, Philippines, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Cameroon, Canada, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Zambia, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Switzerland, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, or Zimbabwe.
The language of instruction must be clearly stated in the degree certificate or its appendix, transcript of records, or another official document issued by the institution.
If the degree proving your English proficiency is the same as the degree granting you eligibility to apply, and you are completing the degree in spring 2026, the deadline for submitting documents is indicated in the section Required application documents (depending on the qualification completed).
