The Elements of Success (Menestys) research group studies film and television production processes, production cultures, and contemporary audiences. Our focus is on understanding the factors that contribute to the success of audiovisual works, from creative and organizational practices and business models to audience reception. The group approaches these questions linking production studies with media ecology and research on audiovisual business, industry development, and cultural policy. By combining these perspectives, we develop new knowledge that supports the sustainability and international competitiveness of the Finnish film and television sector.

The research group received Tekes funding for the years 2016–2017. The Elements of Success project examined Finnish film production cultures, focusing on filmmaking processes and the factors contributing to the success of feature films. By analysing these dynamics, the project provided insights to support decision-making and strengthen the business expertise of Finnish film production.
