Creativity and Arts in Organizations and Society (CAOS)
Aalto early-career research community exploring art and creativity in organizations and society
This seminar engages participants with insights from a research project that explores intrapreneurship as both a practical and theoretical approach to renewal and innovation in media organizations. The seminar is co-chaired by Professor of Practice Nando Malmelin (Aalto) and Senior Scientist Matti Pihlajamaa (VTT).
Using the project as a concrete example, we examine how academic research can be designed to generate meaningful impact beyond academia. We discuss how collaboration with industry partners shaped both the research process and its outcomes, including the development of the Intrapreneurship Workbook for Media Companies.
The seminar also invites reflection on how scholars can engage with practice in ways that are both intellectually rigorous and practically relevant.
The seminar is jointly organized by the Creativity and Arts in Organizations and Society (CAOS) Networkand the Aalto Organizational Communication Group.
Dr. Nando Malmelin is an expert in media innovation and strategic renewal, with extensive experience in senior roles in the media industry. His work explores how organizations navigate digital disruption and foster intrapreneurship from within. Working at the intersection of research and industry, he develops practical frameworks that help media companies turn ideas into impact.
Dr. Matti Pihlajamaa is a Senior Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. He holds a PhD in innovation management and studies industrial and organizational renewal, innovation management, and sustainability transitions, with a focus on how firms and policies shape long-term transformative change.
