Creativity and Arts in Organizations and Society (CAOS)

Creativity and Arts in Organizations and Society (CAOS) Network is a collaborative research network and community exploring art and creativity in organizations and society. It brings together doctoral candidates, postdocs, and faculty around questions of art, creativity, leadership, and organizing. CAOS is an experiment in collective creativity — a safe, generative space that broadens perspectives, sparks fresh ideas, and cultivates breakthroughs in research.
CAOS

The CAOS Network is both a research network and a creative community exploring art and creativity in organizations and society. We bring together doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty to create a supportive environment where scholars — particularly those early in their careers — can thrive.

Our research spans a wide spectrum of perspectives on art, creativity, and organizing. Approaches range from pragmatic, practice-oriented work with close ties to business and management to critical scholarship that foregrounds the politics, ethics, and darker sides of creativity. This diversity of viewpoints enables us to generate balanced insights that advance theory and inform practice, ensuring relevance for academic, organizational, and societal stakeholders alike.

Our activities range from paper development workshops, reading groups, and seminars on art-based methods to collaborative projects, exhibitions, and engagement with stakeholders beyond academia. With rotating leadership and shared responsibilities, we treat organizing itself as a collective creative endeavor.

CAOS provides the intellectual infrastructure and collegial connections necessary to advance cutting-edge research at Aalto University while experimenting with how creative practices can shape organizing, pedagogy, and societal impact.
