The biogas digester, "Katla," was first proposed in late 2023. It converts organic waste into biogas and fertilizer for our community gardens, building a stronger local resource cycle.
Meadow
This project focuses on increasing biodiversity by planting a meadow that attracts pollinators. The project was started in the fall of 2023 by Creative Sustainability student Meri-Tuuli Moilanen.
Beekeeping
Our beekeeping project introduces students to the world of honeybees. Participants can join our free introductory course, then work as hive buddies with experienced beekeepers. We also maintain meadows for the bees.
Gardening
The longest-running project at the Test Site, Gardening, is all about creating a vibrant green space in the heart of Otaniemi while sharing nature-based practices with fellow students.
Growing tessellations with mycelium-cellulose composites
Aalto University Bioinnovation Center doctoral candidate Laureen Mahler visited Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands to investigate the viability of growing tessellations with mycelium and cellulose-based substrates.
Curriculum development
The aim of curriculum design is a programme that helps students acquire the competence they will need in their field in the future and to acquire it within the target time frame. In this page, we have described the stages of curriculum development and instructions for each stage. You can find also methods, tools and working templates to support the co-development and carry out each stage.
