Aalto University offers 200 new study places in this year’s joint application process
This year, Aalto University will increase its number of places in the bachelor's degree programmes in the joint application process by approx. 200. In the field of science and technology, the number of places increases by approx. 150, in business and economics by approx. 35, of which 5 places are via the open university route, and in art and design by approx. 15. The additional places will, for the most part, be allocated to the entrance examination selection.
‘Last spring was challenging for applicants due to changes and uncertainty caused by the pandemic. Aalto University wants to shoulder its societal responsibility and offer more young people the opportunity to receive an education. Ensuring competence is key to rising from exceptional circumstances,’ states Petri Suomala, Vice President of Education at Aalto University.

I interviewed two Aalto University instructors who have used glossaries created by students as coursework in a subject course and a field-specific language course. The assignments are based on active learning methods: the glossaries are not created by the instructor, but by the learners themselves. The interview focused, among other things, on the teaching philosophy behind developing the glossary tasks, how the learning of field-specific vocabulary can be linked to the overall learning objectives of the course, and what technical solutions enable students’ active learning in glossary assignments.
