Electronic degree certificates

Aalto has introduced the use of electronic degree certificates, speeding up the graduation process, making employment applications easier and improving archiving practices. Aalto deans will henceforth be able to sign degree certificates electronically regardless of time or place.

Introduced on 15 September, Aalto鈥檚 electronic degree certificate became a reality on 16 September when the dean of the School of Science signed the first certificate electronically. The graduating student received notification that their Bachelor of Science (Technology) certificate was ready and successfully downloaded it without problem.

The e-certificates will be stored in a new digital archive, AaltoRepo. The new archiving system will provide reliable long-term storage of the university鈥檚 documents, significantly minimising the risk of loss or damage.

The advent of e-certificates is ushering Aalto into a new era. With the digital format, deans can quickly and conveniently give their signatures without being tied to specific place. On the next weekday morning after the signing, the graduate will be notified through their Aalto email and secondary email that their degree certificate is ready for downloading via a separate portal.

In this way, the graduation process is becoming streamlined, and electronic degree certificates also facilitate employment searches since they can be added unchanged to most recruitment systems and require no separate certification.
