Our host Riikka Evans interviewed the provost as a part of the podcast series for the Aalto teaching community.

Aalto University’s career systems are based on the principle of commitment from university and individual to academic careers. The tenure and lecturers' track systems are comparable to the standards of other world-class universities, with clearly defined expectations, incentives, and assistance in personal development.

Eric Malmi received his PhD from Aalto University in 2018 with a dissertation that developed AI methods for linking historical records and family trees. At Google DeepMind he has developed Gemini language models and a chess AI. He returned to his alma mater because of ELLIS Institute Finland.
