Universum, which keeps track of employer images, uses an annual survey to find out about employer brands globally in 62 countries. In Finland, around 11 500 young adults on the verge of graduation, with the average age of 24, responded to the survey this year.

'Aalto University was awarded the title of the University of the Year. Overall, its students are satisfied with their university. Career Services were praised; in fact, the School of Business received the highest score ever received by a Finnish university in an assessment of these services. The quality of the university is considered high and its cooperation with companies is perceived as good; Aalto's students are more innovative than others and they believe in themselves', Universum's Country Manager in Finland Jonna Sjövall summarises the results of the survey.

'Aalto University leads the way from a number of viewpoints, reflecting together on how to succeed in serving both students and employers. This is a sign of renewal. Aalto is already being benchmarked around the world, European top universities are interested in the results of the survey and what is done well at Aalto', Sjövall continues.

Students' favourite workplace Finnair is Premium Partner of School of Business

According to the survey, Finnair has become the most desirable workplace among business students.

Sjövall explains that work at Finnair is perceived as a valuable entry in one's cv and it is a good career reference. The company has been active on social media and has conducted successful student cooperation with Aalto University.

'We made a Premium Partner partnership agreement with Finnair last autumn and have been happy with the company's branch and its strong international brand among our partners ever since the beginning', explains Jonna Söderholm, the head of external relations at the School of Business.

'Even though our students are familiar with the Finnair brand, the active and versatile collaboration has succeeded in creating better visibility of the opportunities provided by Finnair specially to business graduates', Söderholm continues.

Aalto students awarded Students of the Year

Alongside the survey aimed at employers, Universum organised the Student of the Year competition in collaboration with its clients, the Finnish Tax Administration, Enfo, and Fira. The competition offered the students an excellent opportunity to show what in particular makes them the future hopes whose competence and background fit the application criteria. At the same time, the competition provided the participants with an excellent opportunity to get a deeper understanding on the participating organisations and create working life contacts.

Mikko Heiskanen, a student at the School of Business, was among the Top 3 candidates for the Tax Ambassador of the Year. However, a student from the University of Turku was awarded with the title. The top three candidates for the Digital Student of the Year, an award granted by Enfo, included two students from the School of Business: Viljami Väisänen and Joona Ruissalo, out of whom Väisänen was named as the winner. Joonas Lehtovaara of the Aalto University School of Engineering was awarded the Construction Student of the Year by Fira.

The honours were awarded at the Universum Awards seminar at Korjaamo Culture Factory on 27 April 2016.
