What do you do for work?

As the Development Manager of the School of Electrical Engineering, I support the Dean, Vice-Deans and Department Heads in the strategic management of the school and departments. For example, I lead various school-level development projects, and collect and analyse information to support decision-making – including that of EDI themes. I also supervise the School's Leadership Support Services team.

What acts of inclusion do you do in your work?

I have been actively involved in EDI work at universities for a decade. During this time, I have attended numerous training sessions and events, read up on literature and research in the field, and served as the chair of the EDI group of the School of Electrical Engineering from 2019 to 2025. Despite this experience, I still make mistakes. However, I hold myself accountable for my actions: if I forget a colleague's pronouns or notice that my joke didn't land as intended, I apologise quickly and sincerely.

I also strive to create an atmosphere of safety and mutual trust as a supervisor of my team, and more broadly in the work community. I am open about my limitations and circumstances in my life that may affect my well-being and how I function within the workplace community. Everyone has the right and freedom to choose how much of themselves they share – however, I hope that I set an example in creating a space where everyone can be themselves.
