Shaping a sustainable future – new strategy published
During its first 10 years, Aalto University has created at its Otaniemi campus a world-class centre of expertise, and the university is now one of the world’s leading universities in its key areas.
‘This success is due to the Aalto community’s enthusiastic and determined work and our open way of working together,’ says President Ilkka Niemelä.
The university's first long-term strategy gave the entire university a common direction and shared values as well as some ambitious goals.
The new strategy, which comes into force at the beginning of 2021, has been prepared in line with a so called living strategy approach. This model takes better account of how the world is changing: the university’s role, values and way of working steer the long-term direction, and development areas are regularly reviewed with involvement from the whole community. The strategy was also prepared both in cooperation with personnel and students and listening to the different stakeholders.
Aalto University's future will continue to be based on high-quality research and teaching, on having an impact, and on keeping to its shared values of responsibility, courage and cooperation. The purpose of the University is to shape a sustainable future.
‘At Aalto, we are developing solutions to major global challenges. In addition to high-quality research, education and innovation, we have unique strengths that can be utilised for future challenges. A truly multidisciplinary community that creates new perspectives and an inspiring, entrepreneurial culture,’ says Ilkka Niemelä.
In the coming spring, the schools and units of Aalto University will draw up action plans in line with the new strategy, and the new living strategy will enter into force on 1 January 2021.
