In education and research, long-standing commitment is essential for impact. 

Today’s brain imaging and quantum technology owe much to the pioneering work of Professor Olli Lounasmaa in the Low Temperature Laboratory of the Helsinki University of Technology in the 1960s. Likewise, billions of Bluetooth devices worldwide still rely on the standardized encryption solutions developed in the late 1990s by Aalto’s Professor Emerita Kaisa Nyberg.

To safeguard competitiveness and resilience in the years ahead, Finland needs an ever more highly educated workforce – as well as bold art, research, and innovation.

Groundbreaking ideas and products are not born every day, or even every year. They are often preceded by years – even decades – of fundamental research. Experimental research and development is a long-term effort, and therefore requires long-term funding.
