ÄûÃʵ¼º½ to support international students

Competition for talented, motivated students is fierce. Scholarships are a key factor in helping international students choose between universities.

In Finland, tuition fees apply to students who are not citizens of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland.

More than half of admitted master’s students from these countries decline their place at Aalto due to financial reasons. We offer scholarships to cover tuition fees so we don’t lose top applicants to other European universities – and so we can welcome the best students to enrich our university community to benefit all our students and researchers.

Interdisciplinary learning and research are at the heart of Aalto’s mission. But major global breakthroughs are rarely achieved through interdisciplinary collaboration alone – more and more often, they are driven by multinational teams that combine diverse perspectives.

Diversity is truly a strength.

Finland’s long-term success is built on research, innovation, and international talent.

The impact of a scholarship goes beyond its monetary value. Students report that receiving one feels like a sign of trust – an investment in them by the community.

Like all students, international students work alongside their studies to support themselves. However, day-to-day life is more expensive when there’s no option to go home for the weekend – and everything that didn’t fit in a suitcase must be bought. Many students are buying their first-ever winter clothes, and there aren’t enough furnished apartments for everyone. It all adds up.

A scholarship eases financial pressure and reduces the number of hours spent in essential paid work – which, students say, directly improves their academic performance. The extra free time also enables sports, hobbies, and participation in student life, all of which help with integration and making local connections that are crucial in long-term satisfaction and come into play when deciding career locations.

The value of your donation

“I didn’t just study in Finland, I grew up here. I always wanted to connect the worlds of engineering and business and at Aalto I got the tools and the courage to do just that. The scholarship gave me more than knowledge; it gave me a new version of myself. Receiving such financial help didn’t just open a door – it created one where none existed.

For me, the scholarship wasn’t a reward, it was a lifeline to a future I never thought I could reach.â€

“The scholarship gave me the breathing room to focus on learning, connecting, and growing without constantly worrying about finances. On a deeper level, it was a meaningful reminder that others believed in my potential, and that really stayed with me.

At the same time, being supported here in Finland helped me feel more grounded and connected to life here. It made me want to stay, contribute, and find my place in this society.â€

By donating to scholarships for international students, you

    1. attract top international talent to the university and enrich the learning environment for all students
    2. support the financial stability, wellbeing, and long-term commitment of international students to Finland
    3. promote a diverse and inclusive university, intercultural dialogue, and the creativity that grows from it.

While scholarships naturally come with no obligations, recipients are more likely than their peers to give back — offering their time as mentors and later donating to support future students once they advance in their careers. They pay it forward.

    Tuition fees

You can donate any amount between €5 and €9,999 through our website. The donated funds are awarded to students as scholarships that provide a 100% tuition fee waiver for the standard duration of the degree. Smaller donations are pooled together, and once the total reaches the amount of one tuition fee, a scholarship is awarded based on academic merit during the admissions process.

ÄûÃʵ¼º½ for the wellbeing of our shared future

Aalto University's public core funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture has decreased in real terms by more than one-third compared to 2010, when the university began its operations.

To ensure groundbreaking research and bold, persistent innovators in the future, we must invest in both long-term fundamental research and targeted innovation efforts.

We at Aalto create space and build capacity for working across fields and perspectives. We believe this is what makes our community truly unique — an environment where meaningful results are achieved and every donated euro is put to its best possible use.

ÄûÃʵ¼º½ and you'll invest in a future to be proud of.
