Events and campus experience

Communications services offer variety of support for organising events and event marketing. Large community events like Day One and academic traditions are organized by communications team as well as developing the campus experience in the long term.

Tools for organising events

Registrations can be collected in many different services. Webropol is simple and among the most common ones. Blackthorn (a Salesforce tool) can do much more than that. Read more on the page below.

Allows users to create event webpages, collect registrations, and send marketing and transactional emails.

Liveto – for virtual events

The virtual event platform Liveto supports presenting and hosting academic meetings and conferences online, offering Aalto faculty the possibility to keep up with academic networks and offer high-standard collaboration tools for our new way of working.

Exhibitions

We arrange two major exhibitions per year. One in the spring with varying themes, and Designs for a Cooler Planet in the fall.

Campus visits

We host campus visits for VIP guests, high school students, OPOs etc.

Marsio

Marsio is an open meeting space, event and exhibition venue, enabler of interdisciplinary research and art. Marsio events are facilitated by Communications services.

Aalto art collection

Aalto University uses one percent of building costs to fund art. Art collection is curated by communications services.

Academic events and traditions

Academic events cover the entire academic year from Aalto Day One all the way to the Ceremony Week with the graduation party and ceremonial conferments. Tenured professors' Installation Talks and public defences spread throughout the academic year.

Designs for a Cooler Planet, Aalto University’s biggest annual exhibition showcasing the latest experiments, innovations, and prototypes by students and researchers, has received the prestigious Helsinki Design Award. The nearly two-month-long exhibition is now open on Aalto University’s campus, Espoo.

A! Walk

A! Walks is a summer course centered around walking-based learning, exploring Otaniemi campus and its surrounding urban–natural spaces. Rather than standalone lectures or experiments, the program is designed as a curated sequence of sensory, interdisciplinary walks, guiding participants toward experiences in coexistence, awareness, action, and futures. If successful, A! Walks may be continued during the regular semester.
