Get started with Silktide
Silktide is a content improvement tool that spots common mistakes on webpages. Aalto University uses Silktide aiming to enhance digital accessibility and content quality across aalto.fi.
Former SiteImprove users have automatically received a Silktide user account. Those users can log in to with an Aalto email address. If you do not have a Silktide user account yet, email communications@aalto.fi to request access. Note that by obtaining editor rights, you consent to the sharing of your name and email address with third-party services as required.
Silktide runs through most of the aalto.fi public pages, with a few exceptions such as profile pages. Unlike SiteImprove, Silktide also scans news and event pages, giving a more comprehensive overview of content performance across the site. Note that pages requiring login are not currently scanned by Silktide.
Silktide provides an overall performance score of aalto.fi as well as detailed assessments of individual pages based on default checks. We have also added some custom policies to target common problems specific to aalto.fi, like the upload of heavy files or excessive use of capital letters. The identified weaknesses are listed in a number of categories eg. content, accessibility etc.
Silktide extension
If you want to test your page straight away, you need to install the Silktide (only available for Chrome and Edge). The extension activates a toolbar that shows live page assessments directly on aalto.fi. This is specially useful for reviewing newly created pages before they are fully indexed.
Our custom policies, created ad-hoc to track down some typical errors, are integrated into the Content section of the Silktide browser extension. Ideally, you will focus on this section, as it provides all the essential information you need without getting into technical details. It covers everything from broken links and misspellings to all our custom policies.
Additional features
For a more comprehensive experience, you can also access the Silktide platform. While the browser extension provides quick, on-page insights, the platform offers additional features.
Within the , you can find individual pages, links to and from those pages, existing keywords or links to documents.
In addition, a key feature in Silktide is the built-in AI Assistant, which supports content optimisation in several ways:
- Page summaries: you can get an overview of what your page is about and how it can be improved.
- Guided fixes: when issues like 'Link text as a URL' are flagged, you can trigger the AI Assistant to explain the problem in plain language and offer advice on how to fix it.
- Content suggestions: you can directly ask for recommendations to improve the clarity or readability of your text eg. suggestions for a headline based on the body text.
